Singles Downplay Valentine's Day but Men Admit to a Certain "Expectation" According to a New Survey
OkCupid.com reveals how singles really feel about dating on the "Hallmark Holiday"
New York, New York - February 5, 2007 - OkCupid, America's fastest growing free online dating site, today announced results from a survey that asked 1,000 singles how they feel about Valentine's Day and dating. The results pointed to a general indifference for what is often considered the most romantic day of the year. However, men who date on Valentine's Day admit that it carries a certain "expectation of intimacy." In contrast, 82% of women refuse to lower their dating standards just to have a date on Valentine's Day.
According to the January, 2007 OkCupid.com survey:
- 57% of respondents said Valentine's Day is "just a Hallmark holiday" with only 1% deeming it "very important to have a date."
- 82% of females and 72% of males said they are not willing to lower their standards in order to have a date on Valentine's Day.
- 37% of men said Valentine's Day carries a certain "expectation" when it comes to intimacy with a date.
- 43% of females said they are more willing to be intimate with their Valentine if their date treats them "extra special."
- 17% of women said they would like to believe they do not lower their standards, but admit that they probably do.

More Than 10,000 People Respond to OkCupid.com's "Ho for the Holidays" Quiz; 82% would hide an office romance; 72% of women admit they flirt with the boss
New York, NY - December 18, 2006 - OkCupid.com, the largest free online dating site, today announced the results of a quiz designed to explore how singles feel about dating during the holidays and the acceptable rules of engagement for office romance. The quiz, available at http://www.okcupid.com/holiday, was taken by more than 10,000 OkCupid members and provides the following revelations:
- 45% of OkCupid members said they need to be dating someone for at least three months before bringing them to the office holiday party; 12% would bring someone after the first date, if they're "hot"
- Only 7% said they abstain from alcohol at office parties, while 47% admit to getting "tipsy"
- 51% said they would "lock lips" with a co-worker under the mistletoe, if the person is attractive
- 82% of people said they would hide an office romance from the boss
- 72% of women said they have flirted or used their sexuality to get a better performance review, while 97% of men said they have not
- 16% admit to having participated in a "sex act" in the office, beyond just kissing
- When it comes to kissing of a different kind, less than 25% said they plan to buy their boss a holiday gift this year.

More than 8,000 People Respond to OkCupid.com "Election Day" Quiz; Abortion and the War in Iraq are Top Two Political Issues in Relationships Today
New York, NY - November 3, 2006 - OkCupid, the completely free website that offers a quizzical view on online dating, today announced the results of an "Election 2006" quiz designed to explore how important political and social issues factor into the current dating landscape. The quiz, available at http://www.okcupid.com/politics, was taken by more than 8,000 people and included light-hearted and serious questions that cut to the heart of how strongly people feel about social and political issues and whether they want their partners to share their convictions.
When asked which issue is the most important for a significant other to agree on, 36.5 percent chose abortion, 21.4 percent said the war in Iraq, 19.3 picked the environment, 12.7 percent answered George Bush's IQ, and 10.1 percent said taxes.
When it comes to sexual performance, 82.6 percent of respondents said that Democrats are better in bed, with only 17.4% siding for Republicans.
On the topic of marriage between political parties, 71.9 percent said they would rather have an affair with a Republican, but marry a Democrat, while only 28.1 percent said they would want to have an affair with a Democrat, but marry a Republican.
