I seem to excel at picking up random, dubiously useful skills.
Things like welding (sort of), stained glass, bookbinding, letterpress printing,
how to drape a sari, how to swear in Russian...and also some unfashionably
domestic ventures like sewing, baking/cooking, and embroidery. I can also
identify random typefaces at ten paces--it comes with
the "graphic designer" turf.My degree was in illustration, and I do some web design in my spare time; I'd like to think I'm reasonably good at those, too, but...chacun à son goût.

either.Movies and television: Donnie Darko, Cleopatra Jones, Koyaanisqatsi, Shallow Grave, Red Dawn (it's such a trainwreck!); Project Runway, Venture Brothers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Prisoner, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and of course the ne plus ultra of snark, America's Next Top Model.
Music: I'm in a serious old-school soul phase at the moment, but you'll also find a lot of David Bowie, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, James Brown, Johnny Cash, Nina Simone, Parliament/Funkadelic, The Magnetic Fields, Radiohead, The Shins, Nick Cave, Philip Glass, Nomeansno, and probably a few more that I'm forgetting besides.
Food: Dark chocolate and single malt scotch is all I really need, but I'll go for anything fresh/good/seasonal.

Geekin' it up, I'm sure.Lately I have a tendency to get my ass handed to me while playing Settlers of Catan or Puerto Rico. But I'm just as happy making a fool of myself with Rock Band or Karaoke Revolution or other games of that nature. There's a Netflix subscription I try to exploit, but it seems to fall by the wayside often as not. If it's summer, there's an excellent chance I'll be out camping or traveling; in the winter, I'll probably be sucked into some oddball project or other.
On a typical Friday night I am (usually) not: anywhere that's crowded and noisy, unless there's a very good reason to be there.
