I'm now settled into my job, my new apartment, and certain routines. ;) I've found that sometimes my job is busy and sometimes it's not. Sometimes I'm working on 13 things in a day and sometimes I work on one thing all day. I'm not sure which is worse/better. But hey, it's a job where I get a combination of some of my favorite things, creativity, a concrete product, fun people, and curse words. I'll say it here that I'm a copy writer for an advertising/marketing/pr firm. We spend an inordinate amount of time talking about movies and tvs and youtubes. I'm still envisioning some more education in my future, and perhaps some teaching. Maybe some distant, warmer climes are in my future. At least intermittently. For awhile.

So as to me, the Lady Rachel. I'm vivacious and incredible. I'll knock your socks off and leave your shoes intact. I'm too Christian for atheists/agnostics but at the same time I'm not Christian enough for people who consider themselves so. But I don't consider myself to be too serious. One of the things I love most in the world is humour. British humour is especially humourous.

I love (in no particular order) reading, dark chocolate, getting flowers, giving flowers, delicious smells, delicious foods, a good steak, ANY steak, mashed potatoes, my mother's chocolate chip peanut butter oatmeal cookies, the internet, staying in bed till noon (or later), the perfect t-shirt, having an excuse to dress up all fancified, intelligent discussions about almost anything, train rides, reading trashy magazines, tangerines, water with lemon please, gelato, really amazingly nice shoes, and last but not least, rainstorms.

They notice my aura. And I'm not talking some ethereal pseudo glow. I'm talking like an actual aura, a surrounding cocoon of light and color correspondent to my mood and level of enlightenment. It's usually magenta if I'm happy, lime green if I'm confused, or yellow when I'm angry.

Yellow is a bad color to see.

Oh and for real, my eyes? my hair? I don't know.

Books: the Ender Series and various other Orson Scott Card stuff but not Alvin the Maker stuff, Gregory Maguire - the genius behind the book that inspired Wicked and other amazing fairy tale twists, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. - so it goes, Al Franken books, His Dark Materials Trilogy, Neil Gaiman, Jostein Gaarder, Isabelle Allende, Laura Esquivel, The Princess Bride, Harry Potter - ALL 7 OF EM BABY, a lot of science fiction/fantasy type stuff, I have a soft spot for magical realism, but I'm open to a lot of things.

Movies: Casino Royale, Out Cold, Center Stage, Peter Pan, The Princess Bride, Harry Potter - ALL 7 OF EM BABY oh wait, anyway, anything Monty Python, Empire Records, Everything is Illuminated, Lord of the Rings, Enchanted, I can't even think right now. I do watch a lot of TV on DVD. I love Arrested Development, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, The Brak Show, you know, all the good Adult Swim cartoons, and I have recently become obsessed with Doctor Who, but unfortunately I seem to catch more Torchwood.

At this point I would like to officially say that I am looking forward to Watchmen with an almost unhealthy amount of enthusiasm. After seeing the trailer, I read the graphic novel, skipping only a few of the bird sections and the part where they talk about the shipwreck comic guy toward the end. At that point, I just wanted to know what happened. And then I got even more excited.

Music: Logan Whitehurst and the Junior Science Club, Maroon 5, James Taylor, Billy Joel, Queen, Manhattan Transfer, The Carpenters, Ben Folds, Cake, Mike Doughty, I pretty much like anything with a good beat and bassline. Oh, and how I can I forget? Musicals! I love musicals!!! My favorite is Wicked, but I also love 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and yeah, I can't even think of them.

My newest musical obsession is this localish band called Here Come the Mummies. They play Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave and it's GOOD. Booty-shaking, horns-blasting, mummy-costume-wearing FUNK is where it's at. It gets me all riled up. I'm going to try to see them again on Halloween and try to convince my brother to come too. I'll let you know how it goes.

Food: I love a good steak, medium rare, mashed potatoes, steamed rice, steamed broccoli, teriyaki, fried plantains, green tangerines, a lot of different stuff. I'm sort of picky, but mostly it's texture that gets to me. Like the texture of water chestnuts or cooked carrots. UGHGHGHGHHHH. Unfortunately for all of you cosmopolitan people out there, I don't like sushi and yes I've actually tried it.

The last profile I had contained some witty comment about sex and how just because I couldn't do without it did NOT mean that I would do you, but that if you understood some big word, I would be more likely to fuck you. That all still stands, but here's my new list.

I have decided to make a list of 6 things I COULD do without:

4. things costing money

5. not having something to read on the toilet

6. not having a fulfilling job (taken care of, see about me)

Well, the egg obviously came first because dinosaurs laid eggs and they evolved into the first proto-birds so there's really no question. I think I'm a lot smarter than I think I am. Am I really a christian? Maybe Ratzinger-cum-Benedict isn't a bad Pope, but did he REALLY have to use the phrase "God bless America"? And speaking about that. The people who say "God has really blessed me" when they're talking about something like having family members who came home from Iraq uninjured make me upset. I mean, what about those who had loved ones who died? My friend Scott was in the Marines. I went to his wedding in December and then his funeral the following November in the same church. What about his family? What about his young widow? Does God hate her? Is she un-blessed? Don't get me wrong, the men and women who are fighting the war our president got us into are doing something great. They are doing something I couldn't do. And every day I hope that they come home safely and soon. I can support the troops without supporting the cause. I can love this country and the people here without agreeing with all of our policies and practices. Now I'm looking forward to January when we have a change of administration. But it's like, sometimes, I get so discouraged by the flair I see on facebook. I see so much vitriol aimed at Obama. Things like "I'll show your president as much respect as you showed mine" and worse. I admit that there was a fair amount of ridicule aimed at GWB. But Obama isn't MY president, he's OUR president. And all those conservatives who are saying they want to run away to Canada, darlings, they have gay marriage and universal healthcare. How positively socialistic of them. Speaking of gay marriage, prop 8? Come on. I mean, come ON!?! What impact does a marriage between 2 women have on your one woman one man marriage? Honestly. If you're so concerned about the sanctity of marriage, then how about we focus more on saving the marriages we have. Bring the divorce rate down some, huh?

I'm trying to figure out exactly what my new typical Friday night will be. My old Friday night moved to Las Vegas and I'm hoping that I'll start having play practice. It would be nice. But I don't get to choose that. You have to be cast. So we'll see what I'll end up doing.

Because I'm an idiot for this site, I'm going to try to expand my essays by 578 characters to get my profile to 100%. I feel like it will be an accomplishment to see something through to the finish. The reason I'm adding things here is that it's one of the leaner sections. The reason that admitting this is private is because it reveals to you, the general OkC public just how nerdy I am. I mean, yeah you can look at my pictures and see that I have one in Harry Potter costume, which I did wear to a midnight premiere of Prisoner of Azkaban, or you could look at my tests which show how much I care about stupid things. But by openly admitting that I am wasting your time and mine by typing all this out JUST so that I can have my profile 100% complete, well, that's nerdy. Real nerdy. Okay! Hit my mark.
